Nallamudi Pooncholai View Point or Number Parai View Point

Perched at an impressive 3,500 feet above sea level, Nallamudi Pooncholai View Point is an absolute paradise for anyone looking to experience the raw, untamed beauty of Valparai. If you want a view that makes you feel like you are literally floating among the clouds, this spectacular estate viewpoint must be on your itinerary.
How to Get There & Route Conditions
  • Distance: It is located roughly 10.5 kilometres away from Valparai town (about a 10-stop drive depending on local transit).
  • The Route: The path takes you along the scenic Sholayar Dam road before branching off through lush, sprawling tea plantations.
  • Road Condition Warning: Please note that the final stretch of the road can be a bit rough and bumpy. Take it slow, as the stunning green views along the way more than make up for the bumpy ride!

What Makes Nallamudi Pooncholai Special?
Unlike standard viewpoints, Nallamudi Pooncholai offers a 360-degree dramatic panorama that feels completely untouched:
  • The "Top of the World" Feel: From the cliff edge, the entire valley opens up right beneath your feet. Because of the high altitude, a thick blanket of mystical white mist rolls in constantly, giving you the sensation of standing above the clouds.
  • Hidden Waterfalls: On a clear day, you can look across the massive valley to spot a majestic, unnamed waterfall cascading down the distant green mountain face.
  • Wildlife Spotting: This area is a critical wildlife corridor. It is one of the best places in Valparai to spot the Nilgiri Tahr, the proud state animal of Tamil Nadu. Keep your eyes peeled during the plantation walk, as wild Indian Bisons (Gaur) and elephants are also spotted here very frequently.
